Who qualifies?
First-time homebuyers buying a one-unit primary residence in Louisiana, Households at or below 80% of HUD AMI under the current parish-by-household-size matrix, Borrowers using an approved lender that has completed MRB training
What support do you get?
Current official HOME/MRB guidelines show grant assistance equal to 5% to 9% of the final loan amount for closing costs and required prepaid items, with a HOME affordability period rather than a soft-second repayment schedule.
Do you repay it?
MRB Home uses grant assistance rather than a soft second mortgage, but the buyer still signs a HOME regulatory agreement tied to the grant amount. Current guidelines impose a 5-year affordability period for assistance up to $15,000, 10 years for more than $15,000 up to $40,000, and 15 years above $40,000. During that period the property must remain the buyer's principal residence, and sale or refinance requires Louisiana Housing approval.
How do you apply?
Apply through an approved lender that has completed MRB training, complete homebuyer education, reserve funds in the LHC system after contract, and deliver the full compliance package before closing on a 30-year first mortgage.
Official source evidence
